Massachusetts State Police Investigating Deadly Warren Dump Truck Accident on I-90 by Mile Marker 70.7
WARREN, MASSACHUSETTS (August 24, 2025) – A man has tragically died in a Warren motorcycle accident with a dump truck along Interstate 90 at mile marker 70.7.
Worcester County officials are saying that the collision took place around 3:00 p.m. on Monday. A motorcyclist and a dump truck were traveling eastbound on I-90 when the two vehicles were involved in a collision.
Paramedics were called to the scene to help the victim. Sadly, the motorcyclist later died due to the severe nature of his injuries.
The dump truck driver involved in the collision remained at the scene and cooperated with police. A full investigation into the Warren motorcycle accident remains ongoing at this time.
Liability for Massachusetts Dump Truck Accidents
Many collisions with commercial trucks involve truck drivers that make dangerous lane changes. Pursuant to M.G.L. c. 89, § 4A, “When any way has been divided into lanes, the driver of a vehicle shall so drive that the vehicle shall be entirely within a single lane, and he shall not move from the lane in which he is driving until he has first ascertained if such movement can be made with safety.”
There are many ways that a truck driver may act negligently and contribute to an accident.
- Blind Spots: A truck driver may have failed to check their blind spots and pulled into the path of a motorcyclist.
- Follow Distance: A truck driver may have failed to maintain an adequate follow distance with the vehicle ahead of them.
- Distractions: A truck driver may have been distracted by their phone and failed to exercise due care to avoid colliding with another vehicle.
Dump truck drivers must obtain a commercial license and are held to a high standard in terms of safety. They must operate with an abundance of caution, given the inherent dangers of driving a very heavy commercial vehicle. When a dump truck driver acts negligently and causes a collision, their employer could be held at fault. As a general rule, companies are liable for the wrongful actions of their employees who were operating within their job duties.
Common Causes of Dump Truck Accidents
Thousands of people are killed or seriously injured in truck accidents every year. Fatigue remains one of the leading causes of these collisions. Truck drivers are often pushed to work long hours and may simply not get enough rest to operate their vehicles safely. The vast majority of truck accidents examined in one study conducted by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration fell into one of three categories.
- 33% of large truck accidents involved a truck driver running out of room in their travel lane.
- 29% of large truck accidents involve the truck driver losing control due to speeding, cargo shift, vehicle system failures, or poor road conditions.
- 22% of large truck accidents involved trucks colliding with the rear end of another vehicle in their own travel lane.
Most truck accidents are preventable and involve some amount of driver negligence. Despite this, truck companies and their insurance providers will virtually never accept responsibility when their driver is involved in a collision.
This is why it is so important that accident victims and their families understand their legal rights. The family of any person who died due to the negligent actions of a truck driver may be able to seek some measure of accountability through a wrongful death claim.
