Meals on Wheels Transport Delivery Van Involved in Hanover Car Accident That Injured 13 People
HANOVER, MASSACHUSETTS (July 27, 2025) – At least 13 people were injured in a Hanover car accident between a transport van and SUV near the intersection of Main Street and Walnut Street.
Plymouth County officials are saying that the accident took place around 11:32 a.m. right outside the Village at Walnut Creek 55+ community. A transport van was involved in a collision with a sport utility vehicle for undetermined reasons.
The force of the impact caused the van to fall onto its side. Apparently, the van was making a Meals on Wheels delivery when it collided with the SUV.
Paramedics were called to the scene to help all of the victims. South Shore Health indicated that they received 13 patients from the accident site.
Neighbors have said that there have been many other crashes at that particular intersection. It’s known to be very busy, and some residents have said that a red light would help make it safer.
A full investigation into the cause of the Hanover car accident remains ongoing at this time.
It is deeply concerning that there have been so many accidents at this particular intersection. City officials should consider adding a light at this intersection or other traffic calming measures to help prevent similar incidents in the future. – Chris DiBella, Managing Attorney
Liability for Plymouth County Car Accidents
Pursuant to Massachusetts General Laws Chapter 89, Section 8, the driver of any vehicle intending to turn left at an intersection or into an alley must first yield the right-of-way to vehicles traveling from the opposite direction that are close enough so as to pose a hazard. If a driver turns into the path of another vehicle, this may be construed as negligence.
If a vehicle is being used as a common carrier, the driver of that vehicle will normally be held to an even stricter safety standard. They must operate with the highest degree of care, short of being insurers of their passengers’ safety.
If a transport van was being used for commercial purposes, the owner or operator of that van may bear some liability for what happened. What matters is whether or not the driver of the van was operating within the course and scope of their job duties.
There are many different factors that could potentially contribute to a car accident.
- Speeding: Speeding remains one of the most common causes of car accidents. Drivers are substantially more likely to lose control of their vehicle at higher speeds.
- Fatigue: Another major cause of motor vehicle collisions is fatigue. The Centers for Disease Control has estimated that staying awake for only 17 hours can reduce a person’s ability to drive safely equal to driving with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.05%.
- Distractions: In the age of smartphones, it has become far too easy to be seriously distracted as a driver. Even taking your eyes away from the roadway for two seconds could potentially lead to a collision.
