Female Pedestrian, 79, From Acton, Seriously Injured in Food Delivery Car Accident in Littleton Near King Street and Goldsmith Street
LITTLETON, MASSACHUSETTS (December 22, 2025) – A 79-year-old woman was seriously injured in a Littleton car accident with a food delivery driver by King Street and Goldsmith Street.
Middlesex County officials are saying that the accident took place around 7:00 PM on Wednesday. The woman was crossing the street when she was hit by a delivery driver.
Paramedics were called to the scene of the accident to help the woman. She was taken to a local area hospital to receive treatment for serious injuries.
The driver of the delivery vehicle remained at the scene and cooperated with authorities. A full investigation into the Littleton food delivery accident remains ongoing.
Liability for Littleton Food Delivery Accidents
All drivers in Massachusetts have a legal obligation to use caution to avoid colliding with any pedestrian in the roadway. Pursuant to M.G.L. c. 90, § 14, “Upon approaching a pedestrian who is upon the traveled part of any way and not upon a sidewalk, every person operating a motor vehicle shall slow down.” If a driver fails to slow down to avoid hitting a pedestrian, this could form the basis of a negligence claim.
There are many other ways a driver may have contributed to a pedestrian collision through negligence.
- Unsafe Turns: A driver may make an unsafe turn into the path of a pedestrian.
- Unsafe Speed: A driver may operate their vehicle at an unsafe speed. What many drivers do not realize is that traveling the speed limit could potentially be dangerous depending on the prevailing conditions of the roadway.
- Distracted Driving: A driver may have been preoccupied with their cell phone or other object and failed to notice a pedestrian nearby.
- Driver Intoxication: A huge portion of pedestrian collisions involves drivers who are intoxicated. Even modest amounts of alcohol can substantially impair a person’s ability to operate their vehicle safely.
If a vehicle was being used to deliver food for a restaurant at the time of a collision, the restaurant or related business could be held at fault. As a general rule, employers can be held vicariously liable for the wrongful actions of their workers, insofar as they were operating within the course and scope of their job duties. When the driver is working for a delivery service like Postmates, liability will typically extend to that delivery company’s commercial insurance policy. Direct liability against food delivery providers may arise for accidents caused by negligent hiring or inadequate safety policies.
Steps to Take After Littleton Food Delivery Accidents
Victims of these collisions should take certain measures to protect their health and legal rights.
- Medical Attention: Victims should seek medical attention as early as possible. Many of the injuries associated with a serious collision may not be immediately obvious.
- Follow-Up Care: Seeking follow-up care, like physical therapy, is an important part of recovering from any serious accident. Moreover, failing to seek follow-up care can weaken any subsequent legal claim.
- Evidence Preservation: All of the evidence associated with any crash should be collected and preserved. This will include crash photos and surveillance footage.
- Legal Support: Any person injured in an accident should seek the legal guidance of an experienced Boston pedestrian accident lawyer. An attorney can take steps to protect your legal rights and compensate you for your injuries.
The vast majority of food delivery accidents are preventable. They tend to involve drivers who are speeding or committing some other traffic infraction. Part of the problem is that drivers are incentivized to complete their delivery routes as quickly and efficiently as possible. This can lead to them adopting unsafe driving habits. Victims of pedestrian accidents involving food delivery drivers can seek some measure of justice through a personal injury claim.
The rise of rideshare and food delivery services has led to an increase in motor vehicle collisions. According to UIC today, “One-third of ride-share drivers surveyed in a new study reported being involved in a crash while working. Using a cellphone, driving while tired or driving on unfamiliar roads increased the likelihood of a crash, according to the study by University of Illinois Chicago researchers.”
