ANDOVER, MASSACHUSETTS (November 26, 2025) – At least three people were seriously injured in an Andover semi-truck accident along the northbound lane of Interstate 495.
Essex County officials are saying that the accident took place around 5:40 PM on Monday. Two tractor-trailer trucks and a passenger vehicle were all traveling north on Interstate 495 when they were involved in a collision.
Emergency responders were called to the scene of the accident to help all of the victims. Video from the crash site shows that at least one of the vehicles rolled over as a result of the crash.
At least two people suffered serious injuries in the crash and were taken to the hospital. A full investigation into the cause of the Andover truck accident remains ongoing.
Liability for Essex County Truck Accidents
Speeding remains one of the leading causes of truck accidents. Pursuant to M.G.L. c. 90, § 17, “No person operating a motor vehicle on any way shall run it at a rate of speed greater than is reasonable and proper, having regard to traffic and the use of the way and the safety of the public.” There are many factors that can make semi-trucks uniquely dangerous.
- Blind Spots: Trucks have large blind spots all around that can obscure the presence of passenger vehicles and pedestrians.
- Weight: A fully loaded semi-truck can weigh as much as 80,000 pounds. This makes these vehicles dangerous even at lower speeds.
- Stopping Distance: Semi-trucks have uniquely long stopping distances. A fully loaded truck traveling at freeway speeds could take the length of two football fields to come to a stop.
- Ground Clearance: Trucks have a high ground clearance that can lead to vehicles becoming wedged underneath the truck.
If a truck driver fails to slow down to avoid colliding with a vehicle ahead of them, this may be construed as negligence. Depending on the facts of any case, liability for a truck accident could extend beyond any driver held at fault. For example, the company that a truck driver worked for could also be legally responsible for a collision. Employers can be vicariously liable for the actions of their workers who were performing their job duties.
Steps to Take After Essex County Truck Accidents
Commercial trucks can leave victims with devastating injuries. Many victims do not survive. According to one study in Science Direct, “Nearly 499,000 motor vehicle crashes involving trucks were reported across the United States in 2018, out of which 22% resulted in fatalities and injuries.” Any person injured in a truck accident should take certain measures to protect their health and legal rights.
- Medical Treatment: Victims should seek out medical treatment as soon as possible. In many cases, a person might not be aware of the severity of their injuries until several weeks or months after a crash.
- Photos: Victims should take as many photos of the crash site as possible after they’re able to get themselves to a safe location.
- Contact Information: Victims should collect the contact information of all involved parties.
- Legal Support: Victims should seek the guidance of an experienced Boston truck accident attorney. An attorney can examine all the unique facts of your case and let you know what your legal options are.
Truck accidents can have far-reaching implications for a person’s life. The injuries sustained can impair a person’s ability to work. Many victims are also left with high medical bills. To make matters worse, truck companies will virtually never accept responsibility if one of their drivers seriously injures someone. This is why it is so important for victims to seek legal counsel.
