Massachusetts’ no-fault system means that your own insurance covers your medical bills and lost wages up to the $8,000 known as PIP coverage, regardless of who caused the accident.
But there is an important part to understand in this: you can still sue the at-fault driver if you meet the threshold, meaning either your medical bills exceed the $2,000 minimum or you suffered serious injuries like broken bones, permanent disfigurement, or substantial loss of hearing or sight.
The no-fault system actually helps because your bills get paid while we pursue the larger claim against the at-fault driver.
