PHILLIPSTON, MASSACHUSETTS (September 17, 2025) – At least eight people were injured in a Phillipston logging truck accident on Route 2.

Worcester County officials are saying that the accident involving a logging truck took place shortly before 10 AM on Monday.

Paramedics were called to the scene to help all of the victims. A total of eight people were injured in the crash, including one person who was airlifted to a local hospital.

A full investigation into the Phillipston logging truck accident is ongoing.

Liability for Worcester County Logging Truck Accidents

Truck drivers are required to get a commercial driver’s license. They are expected to operate with an abundance of caution to avoid hitting other vehicles in the roadway. This stems from the fact that these vehicles are inherently dangerous. A fully loaded semi-truck can weigh up to 80,000 pounds. There are a number of ways that a truck driver may have acted negligently and caused a collision.

  • Speed: A truck driver may have been traveling too fast for the prevailing conditions. Generally speaking, truck drivers have to operate their vehicles at lower speeds than the rest of traffic.
  • Follow Distance: A truck driver may have failed to follow other vehicles at a safe distance. When truck drivers follow vehicles too closely from behind, they are more likely to be involved in rear-end collisions.
  • Fatigue: A truck driver may have failed to take mandatory rest breaks and allowed themselves to become dangerously fatigued. This is particularly common when truck drivers complete long trips.
  • Driver Intoxication: A truck driver’s ability to operate their vehicle safely may have been impaired by medications or other substances. Truck drivers are held to a much higher standard when it comes to driver intoxication.

If a truck driver fails to slow down to avoid colliding with a vehicle in front of them, this may be construed as negligence. Their employer could also potentially be held at fault. As a general rule, employers in Massachusetts are vicariously liable for the wrongful actions of their employees who were operating within the course of their job duties. For example, a truck driver may have been delivering goods from one location to another.

Common Causes of Truck Accidents

Commercial trucks make up a relatively small number of the total vehicles on the roadway. But they are involved in a disproportionately high number of serious injury collisions. According to a report in most recent reporting year, the FMCSA states “5,904 large trucks and buses were involved in fatal crashes, a 18-percent increase from 2020. From 2020 to 2021, large truck and bus fatalities per 100 million vehicle miles traveled by all motor vehicles increased from 0.176 to 0.191, 7 percent below the 21st-century peak of 0.205 in 2000.”

There are many common causes of truck accidents, such as:

  • Stopping Distance: Commercial trucks have a longer stopping distance than passenger vehicles. Truck drivers need to take this into consideration at all times when they are traveling down freeways.
  • Vehicle System Failures: Commercial trucks have a high utilization rate. Their component parts can wear out if these vehicles do not undergo routine maintenance and inspections.
  • Environmental Factors: Commercial trucks are much more likely to be involved in crashes during periods of inclement weather. This is especially common when it is raining or snowing outside.

Truck accidents are often highly complex events. There could be several factors that contribute to any collision. It is also possible that more than one driver might contribute to a truck accident.

Any person that is injured due to the negligent actions of a truck driver may be able to seek some measure of accountability through a personal injury claim. In these situations, it is always best to consult with an experienced Boston truck accident attorney. An attorney can take steps to preserve key pieces of evidence and fight to protect your rights.
