Multi-Vehicle Collision Involving Box Truck Leaves Three People Injured Along Busy Wilbraham Road
WILBRAHAM, MASSACHUSETTS (September 14, 2025) – Three people were injured in a Wilbraham multi-vehicle collision involving a box truck near the intersection of Main Street and Boston Road.
Hampden County officials are saying that the collision took place around 7:00 AM on Friday. Three vehicles were involved in a crash, including a box truck.
When firefighters and paramedics were called to the scene, they had to extricate one driver who was trapped inside of their vehicle. Three people were transported to local area hospitals to receive treatment.
The circumstances leading up to the crash remain unknown. But a photo of the accident site shows the back left wheel of the box truck parked on another vehicle.
A full investigation into the Wilbraham car accident remains ongoing at this time.
Liability for Wilbraham Truck Accidents
Every driver in Massachusetts has a legal obligation to operate their vehicle with the care necessary to avoid collisions. Many head-on collisions are caused by drivers that make unsafe lane changes. Pursuant to M.G.L. c. 89, § 4A, “When any way has been divided into lanes, the driver of a vehicle shall so drive that the vehicle shall be entirely within a single lane, and he shall not move from the lane in which he is driving until he has first ascertained if such movement can be made with safety.” There are many different factors that could contribute to truck accidents.
- Speed: Drivers are more likely to lose control of their vehicle and cross into opposing lanes of traffic at higher speeds.
- Poor Road Conditions: Potholes, missing signs, and other road defects could all potentially contribute to a crash.
- Driver Intoxication: What many drivers don’t realize is that a variety of substances besides alcohol could intoxicate them. This includes over-the-counter medications and prescriptions.
When a truck is involved in a collision, there is always the possibility that there could be additional liable parties beyond the operator of the truck. If a truck driver was working at the time of a collision, their employer could be held at fault. There are, however, exceptions worth considering. Companies that rent trucks for private use typically will not be directly liable for collisions involving those drivers. Truck companies will also regularly hire their drivers as “independent contractors” to avoid direct liability for collisions.
Common Injuries Associated With Car Accidents
Many people are seriously injured or killed in truck accidents each year. According to the National Safety Council, “A total of 5,472 people died in large-truck crashes in 2023. The number of deaths decreased 8% from 2022 but is up 40% in the last 10 years. The majority of deaths in large-truck crashes are occupants of other vehicles (70%), followed by truck occupants (18%), and non-occupants, primarily pedestrians and bicyclists (12%).” What follows are just a few of the common injuries associated with truck accidents.
- Traumatic Brain Injuries: The force of a truck accident can cause a person’s head to be thrown forward violently. This can lead to serious brain injuries that can range from concussions to permanent brain damage.
- Broken Bones: It is relatively common for victims of truck accidents to suffer broken bones. Certain areas, including a person’s arms, ribs, and wrists, are particularly vulnerable.
- Spinal Cord Injuries: Truck accidents can also cause severe damage to a person’s spine. In bad accidents, these injuries can lead to partial or full paralysis.
- Internal Organ Damage: Many of the injuries associated with truck accidents will not be outwardly obvious. The blunt force trauma associated with a truck crash can do major damage to a person’s internal organs.
Even if a person’s physical injuries completely heal after a truck accident, victims are often left with long-term psychological injuries. Survivors may be left with anxiety, depression, and post-traumatic stress disorder. It is important for accident victims to understand that they do have legal rights. Any person injured in a truck accident may be able to recover damages through a personal injury claim.
