Police Searching for Tow Truck Driver Suspected of Being Involved in Derry Car Accident That Injured Tyler Stafford on Interstate 93 North
DERRY, NEW HAMPSHIRE (February 24, 2026) – A 38-year-old man identified as Tyler Stafford was injured in a Derry hit-and-run car accident on Interstate 93 North.
Rockingham County officials are saying that the accident took place around 10:30 PM on Thursday. Tyler Stafford was driving down the road in a 2025 Mazda CX-9 when he was involved in a collision with another vehicle.
The driver of that car did not remain at the scene. Paramedics were called to the scene of the accident to help the victim. Tyler Stafford was transported to a local hospital to receive treatment.
New Hampshire State Police assisted in investigating the crash. Two lanes of I-93 North were closed for two hours during the investigation.
Troopers suspect that the driver that fled the scene may have been in a tow truck. Any person with more information is encouraged to contact Trooper Nathan Belanger.
Liability for Derry Car Accidents
Every person operating a motor vehicle in the state of New Hampshire must take certain measures to avoid collisions. Among other things, they must operate their vehicle at a safe speed at all times. According to NH Rev Stat § 265:60, “No person shall drive a vehicle on a way at a speed greater than is reasonable and prudent under the conditions and having regard to the actual and potential hazards then existing.” Drivers should take several other steps to avoid accidents.
- Follow Distance: Drivers must maintain a safe follow distance with all vehicles ahead of them.
- Car Problems: Drivers must pull over to the side of the road if their vehicle is having problems.
- Emergency Lights: Drivers should use their emergency lights if they do need to pull over.
- Intoxication: Drivers should abstain from alcohol and any other intoxicating substance.
When drivers are involved in car accidents, they must remain at the scene of the collision and exchange insurance information with affected parties. Fleeing the scene of an injury collision is against the law and can impose criminal as well as civil penalties for the driver that leaves. If the driver at fault for an injury collision was working at the time of a crash, their employer could also be liable. Generally speaking, employers can be vicariously liable for the tortious actions of their employees–insofar as those workers were operating within the course and scope of their job duties.
Steps to Take After Derry Car Accidents
Car accidents remain a leading cause of preventable injury and death for people across New Hampshire in the United States. According to the New Hampshire Department of Transportation, “In 2022, there were 42,514 motor vehicle crash fatalities in the U.S., equating to 12.8 deaths per 100,000 people and 1.33 deaths per 100 million vehicle miles traveled.” Certain action should be taken after any hidden run collision in New Hampshire.
- The police should be called to the scene so that they can begin investigating.
- All of the physical evidence associated with the crash should be preserved. Even a small fragment of the fleeing vehicle can help identify what kind of car it was.
- Victims should seek medical treatment as soon as they can.
- Any person injured in a hit-and-run collision should seek the guidance of an experienced personal injury attorney.
Being involved in a car accident can be traumatic. This trauma is often worsened when the at-fault driver leaves the scene of the collision. Thankfully, though, accident victims are protected by a number of laws. They are able to seek some measure of accountability and justice through a personal injury claim. Damages in a civil claim can help cover many of the losses incurred by a serious collision.
