Female Pedestrian Sustained Injury To Her Leg After Being Hit By MBTA (The Ride) Vehicle In Brookline

BROOKLINE, MASSACHUSETTS (February 18, 2026) – A woman was injured in an accident with an MBTA vehicle near the intersection of Beacon Street and Harvard Street.

Norfolk County officials say the accident occurred on Thursday night. The woman may have been crossing the street when she was struck by the MBTA vehicle.

Paramedics were called to the accident scene to help the victim. The woman reportedly suffered an injury to her leg before being transported to the hospital.

A full investigation into the crash remains ongoing at this time.

Liability for Norfolk County Car Accidents

Every driver in Massachusetts must use proper care to avoid colliding with any pedestrian. According to Massachusetts General Laws, Part I, Title XIV, Chapter 89, Section 11, “When traffic control signals are not in place or not in operation, the driver of a vehicle shall yield the right of way, slowing down or stopping if need be, so as to yield to a pedestrian crossing the roadway within a crosswalk marked.” There are many ways that a driver may have failed to avoid colliding with a pedestrian.

  • A driver may have failed to check blind spots before making a turn in the roadway.
  • A driver may have failed to scan the road ahead of them for pedestrians and other potential hazards.
  • A driver may fail to use their horn to warn pedestrians of their presence.

If a driver failed to slow down to avoid hitting a pedestrian in the road, this could be construed as negligence. That driver could face liability for the crash through a civil claim. Depending on the facts of any case, liability for a collision could extend beyond any specific driver deemed to be at fault. For example, a company that operated a commercial ride service could be liable for a crash. Employers are usually vicariously liable for the wrongful conduct of the workers they hire.

Common Injuries Associated with Pedestrian Accidents

Pedestrians lack the protection of enclosed vehicles and are more likely to be seriously injured or killed in the event of a collision. According to the U.S. Department of Transportation, “Each year, unfortunately, pedestrian and bicyclist fatalities comprise about 20 percent of all traffic fatalities, with approximately 7,000 pedestrian deaths and 1000 bicyclist deaths. Another 60,000 pedestrians and 42,000 bicyclists are injured in roadway crashes annually.” Victims of pedestrian accidents tend to suffer very serious injuries.

Even after a person’s physical injuries have healed, many victims are left with long-term psychological trauma. This can manifest through anxiety, depression, recurring nightmares, and post-traumatic stress disorder. Unfortunately, transportation companies and their insurance providers will virtually never accept responsibility if they seriously injure or kill a pedestrian. They are more likely to blame the victim for what happened. This is why it is so important that these incidents are properly investigated by an outside party.
