MANCHESTER, NEW HAMPSHIRE (March 29, 2026) – A woman standing near her vehicle has tragically died in a Manchester truck accident on Interstate 93 by the Interstate 293 split.
New Hampshire State Police are saying that the collision took place on Tuesday afternoon. The victim was standing near her stopped vehicle when she was hit by a commercial vehicle.
Paramedics were called to the scene of the crash to help the victim. Despite life-saving measures, she was later pronounced dead.
The truck driver involved in the crash remained at the scene and cooperated with police. The circumstances leading up to the crash remain under investigation.
Liability for Manchester Truck Accidents
Operating a commercial truck is substantially more difficult than driving a passenger vehicle. These drivers are expected to obtain a commercial driver’s license and must exercise a great deal of care to avoid hitting any vehicle or pedestrian in the roadway. According to NH Rev Stat § 265:60, “No person shall drive a vehicle on a way at a speed greater than is reasonable and prudent under the conditions and having regard to the actual and potential hazards then existing.”
Truck companies should take several actions to prevent collisions.
- Screening: Truck companies should properly screen all of their drivers. Hiring an unsafe or unqualified driver could create legal exposure.
- Enforcement: Truck companies should ensure all hours of service regulations are being followed. Truck drivers are only allowed to work so many hours in a given day or week.
- Route Planning: Truck companies should work to eliminate as many left turns as possible in the route that their drivers take.
- Technology: Truck companies should install and use safety technology designed to prevent collisions. This includes blind spot detection systems and automatic emergency breaking.
If a truck driver fails to slow down to avoid hitting any pedestrian, this could be construed as negligence. It does not matter if a pedestrian was in the middle of a major roadway. This does not relieve a driver of their duty of care to slow down and avoid a collision. Liability for a commercial truck accident could also extend to several parties beyond one truck driver. The truck carrier that they work for can also potentially be held at fault through vicarious liability.
Steps to Take After Manchester Truck Accidents
It is important that certain actions are taken after any truck accident.
- The police should be called as early as possible so they can begin investigating.
- The event data recorder for the truck involved should be collected and reviewed.
- Plenty of photos of the accident site should be taken. Even a still photo can help reveal what happened leading up to a crash.
- The family of any person who died should seek an independent review by a team experienced in truck accident investigations.
Truck accidents are often highly complex events. The factors that contribute to a collision may take place hours, days, or weeks beforehand. In many cases, truck accidents are the result of companies that pushed their drivers to complete routes on unrealistic time schedules. This can lead to situations where truck drivers become dangerously fatigued. The family of any pedestrian killed in a truck accident may be able to pursue some measure of accountability through a wrongful death claim.
Investigating Manchester Truck Accidents
Pedestrians lack the protection afforded by enclosed vehicles and are routinely seriously injured or killed in the event of a crash. According to National Public Radio, “American cars and trucks keep getting bigger — and new research suggests that additional height comes at a steep cost to safety. Vehicles with higher front ends and blunt profiles are 45% more likely to cause fatalities in crashes with pedestrians than smaller cars and trucks.”
We at DiBella Law extend our deepest condolences to the family of the woman killed in this Manchester truck accident. Any person who may have more information about what happened should reach out to the police. There needs to be a thorough investigation into what happened for the sake of the victim’s family. Many questions remain unanswered. What was the speed of the truck prior to the crash? What is the safety record of the company that owned the truck?
