Multiple snowplows in an MBTA parking lot during snow storm

Noriko Rapley, 51, Died, and a Male Pedestrian Injured in a Car Accident With Ford F-350 Truck With Snowplow in the Norwood MBTA Parking Lot

NORWOOD, MASSACHUSETTS (January 27, 2026) – A woman identified as Noriko Rapley was killed, and her husband was injured in a Norwood snowplow accident at an MBTA parking lot.

Norfolk County officials are saying that the accident took place around 2:00 p.m. on Sunday during a snowstorm. Noriko Rapley and her husband were walking through a parking lot when they were hit by a Ford F-350 truck with a snowplow attached.

The truck was reversing at the time of the accident. Paramedics were called to the scene to help the couple. Despite life-saving measures, Noriko Rapley died due to the severe nature of her injuries.

Her husband was taken to a local hospital to receive treatment. The operator of the snow truck remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators.

It remains unclear if the truck driver will face any charges for the deadly accident. A full investigation remains ongoing at this time.

Who is Liable for Norfolk County Snowplow Accidents?

All drivers must exercise a great deal of caution to avoid colliding with any pedestrian in the roadway. Drivers should take several measures to avoid colliding with a pedestrian while backing up.

  • Look: Drivers should check all around their vehicle before entering. This is especially important in driveways, parking lots, and other areas where pedestrians are known to congregate.
  • Mirrors: Drivers should use their mirrors and physically turn around so that they can see any pedestrians that might be near them.
  • Spotter: If a driver cannot see what is behind them while backing up, they should take one of two options. They should either exit their vehicle and check. They can also use a spotter to help guide them.
  • Technology: Drivers should make use of any technology in their vehicles. Many trucks will come equipped with proximity sensors and backup cameras.

There are many potentially liable parties in catastrophic truck accident cases such as this one. If a driver fails to slow their vehicle to avoid colliding with a pedestrian while backing up, it could form the basis of a negligence claim. These types of accidents are nearly always preventable and the result of driver error. Depending on the unique facts of any case, liability for such a collision could extend beyond any particular driver who may be liable. The employer that a driver worked for could also be legally responsible for the accident. Generally speaking, employers can be vicariously liable for the wrongful actions of their workers who are operating within the course and scope of their job duties.

Steps to Take After Norfolk County Snowplow Accidents

Poor weather conditions remain a leading cause of pedestrian and motor vehicle collisions. According to the Department of Transportation, “On average, there are over 6,035,000 million vehicle crashes each year. Approximately 12 percent of these crashes – nearly 745,000 – are weather-related. Weather-related crashes are defined as those crashes that occur in adverse atmospheric weather conditions.” Certain steps should be taken after any pedestrian accident.

  • Police Report: The police should be called to the scene as early as possible so that they can begin an immediate investigation. Any report that they create should be carefully scrutinized. These early reports may contain errors.
  • Surveillance Footage: Depending on where an accident took place, there may be surveillance footage that captured it. This could be enormously useful in demonstrating liability for the crash.
  • Employment Status: The employment status of all drivers involved should be determined. If the at-fault driver was working, their employer could be legally responsible for what happened.
  • Independent Review: Any person impacted by a truck accident should seek an independent review of the collision with a team experienced in tort claims. They can investigate the crash free of cost and ensure that all evidence is preserved.

It could be hard to know where to begin after any pedestrian accident. The victims are often left with catastrophic injuries. Survivors may have to contend with the sudden loss of a loved one. To make matters worse, truck drivers and their insurance providers will virtually never accept responsibility for causing an accident. They’re more likely to blame the victims for what happened or say that they were at least partially at fault. This is why it is so important that these incidents are properly investigated by an outside party.
