Minh Dang, 64, of Braintree, Died in Copley Square, Boston Electric Bicycle Accident

BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS (November 5, 2025) – A 64-year-old male pedestrian identified as Minh Dang has tragically died in a Boston e-bike accident at the intersection of Dartmouth Street and Huntington Avenue.

Suffolk County officials are saying that the accident took place on August 6. Minh Dang was walking in Copley Square when he was hit by a bicycle.

It remains unclear if the bicycle was being used as a delivery service vehicle. But photos of the accident do appear to show it equipped with a transportation bag on the rack.

The force of the impact knocked him to the ground with life-threatening injuries. Minh Dang was transported to the hospital in critical condition.

Sadly, he was pronounced dead over a month later on September 11. He is survived by a wife and three children.

You can support the family of the victim through GoFundMe. A full investigation into the Copley Square bicycle accident remains ongoing at this time.

Liability for Boston E-Bicycle Accidents

Bicyclists are afforded the legal rights and responsibilities of drivers. They must operate with due care to avoid collisions. They must be particularly cautious along sidewalks. According to M.G.L. c. 85, § 11B, “A person operating a bicycle on the sidewalk shall yield the right of way to pedestrians and give an audible signal before overtaking and passing any pedestrian.” There are many factors that could contribute to any pedestrian accident.

  • Speed: A bicyclist may have been traveling at an unsafe speed given the prevailing conditions.
  • Recklessness: A bicyclist may have been weaving in and out of pedestrian traffic or otherwise acting recklessly.
  • Distraction: A bicyclist may have been distracted by their phone or other objects.
  • Horn: A bicyclist may have failed to use their horn or alert pedestrians of their presence.

If a bicyclist fails to slow down to avoid colliding with a pedestrian, they could be held liable through a civil action. Depending on the specific facts of any case, there could be numerous sources of liability beyond any driver deemed to be at fault. For example, a business could be legally responsible for a pedestrian accident if a bicycle was being used for a delivery service at the time of a collision. As a general rule, employers can be vicariously liable for the wrongful actions of their employees who were performing their job duties.

Steps to Take After a Boston Bicycle Accident

The proliferation of bicycles and other micromobility options in recent years has led to an increase in serious collisions. According to the University of California, San Francisco, “E-bicycle injuries doubled every year from 2017 to 2022, while e-scooter injuries rose by 45 percent each year. Injured e-riders tended to be slightly older and wore helmets less often than conventional riders.” Any person affected by an e-bike accident should take certain steps to preserve their rights.

  • Medical Evaluation: Being evaluated at the hospital is extremely important after any bicycle crash. Many of the injuries associated with an accident will not be immediately obvious.
  • Police Report: The police should be called to the scene as early as possible so that they can begin an investigation. This also creates an official record of what took place.
  • Eyewitness Information: Any person that may have witnessed the crash should be asked to give a statement. Their contact information should be gathered.
  • Independent Review: The police report after an accident will be far from comprehensive. It is always a good idea to have a serious collision independently reviewed by a team with experience in injury claims.

Bicycle accidents tend to be highly complex events. This is particularly true when other pedestrians are involved. The factors that contribute to any particular accident could take place hours or even months beforehand. Victims of pedestrian collisions are protected by numerous laws in Massachusetts. These rights extend to the family of any person who is killed. They are able to seek some measure of accountability and justice through a wrongful death claim.
