Group Home Van Involved in Bristol County Collision on Interstate 95 North by Exit 6

BRISTOL COUNTY, MASSACHUSETTS (March 1, 2026) — At least 11 people were injured in a Bristol County car accident involving a group home van on Interstate 95 north.

Bristol County officials are saying that the accident took place around 9:15 AM on Friday. The group home van was involved in the collision with another vehicle for undetermined reasons.

Firefighters and paramedics were called to the scene of the accident to help all of the victims. Multiple people were taken to local area hospitals for treatment. The driver of the second vehicle was reportedly not injured.

There were seven members of the group home and four staff members in the van at the time of the crash. A full investigation into the crash by the Massachusetts State Police remains ongoing.

Liability for Bristol County Car Accidents

Drivers have a legal obligation to exercise due care to avoid collisions with other vehicles on the roadway. To that end, they must maintain their vehicle at a safe speed at all times. Pursuant to M.G.L. c. 90, § 17, “No person operating a motor vehicle on any way shall run it at a rate of speed greater than is reasonable and proper, having regard to traffic and the use of the way and the safety of the public.” There are many ways a driver may have acted negligently prior to a collision.

  • Follow Distance: A driver may have failed to maintain a safe follow distance with other vehicles ahead of them.
  • Blind Spots: A driver may have failed to check blind spots before making a turn at an intersection.
  • Distractions: A driver may have been distracted by their phone or other objects.

If a driver fails to slow down to avoid colliding with another vehicle, this could form the basis of a negligence claim. Liability for a motor vehicle collision could extend beyond any particular driver. If a driver was working for a municipal entity or private company, their employer can potentially be held at fault. As a general rule, employers can be vicariously liable for the wrongful conduct of their workers who are operating within the scope of their job duties.

Steps to Take After Bristol County Car Accidents

It is important that any person injured in a car accident take certain measures to protect their rights.

  • Police: The police should be called to the scene of the accident as early as possible so that they can begin investigating. They will create a report of what happened that can be useful in a variety of different situations.
  • Medical Attention: Car accident victims should seek medical attention as soon as possible, even if they feel mostly alright after an accident. Many of the injuries associated with car accidents will not be immediately obvious.
  • Document Everything: Document as much evidence as you can. This will include taking photos of the accident site and gathering witness statements from anyone that may have seen what happened.
  • Legal Support: Victims should seek the guidance of an experienced car accident lawyer. An attorney can examine the unique facts of your case and let you know what your legal options are.

Car accidents could be extremely traumatic and difficult for all involved. Many victims may not be able to return to work. They can also be left with high medical bills. To make matters worse, insurance companies almost never accept responsibility when their driver caused an accident. Any person injured due to the negligent actions of another driver may be able to seek some measure of accountability through a civil claim.
