Jezneel, 12, Critically Injured in Braintree Bicycle Accident With SUV by Gordon Road and Arthur Street

BRAINTREE, MASSACHUSETTS (June 19, 2026) – A 12-year-old boy identified as Jezneel was seriously injured in a Braintree car accident near the intersection of Gordon Road and Arthur Street.

Braintree officials are saying that the bicycle accident took place on June 12. Jezneel was riding a bicycle to his team’s championship baseball game when an SUV struck him.

Paramedics were called to the scene of the accident to help the injured victim. Jezneel was airlifted to Boston Hospital, where he remains in a coma as doctors are preparing for a major surgery.

There’s been an outpouring of love and support following the tragic accident. Friends and members of the community gathered at Abundant Life Church to pray for him.

According to the online fundraiser, “Jezneel has sustained severe head and upper-body trauma, as well as a fractured femur. Since the accident, he has undergone multiple surgeries, including a procedure to assess the extent of his brain injury and surgery to place a rod in his leg. At this time, Jezneel remains in a coma as doctors carefully monitor him for brain swelling and continue to provide intensive care.”

Liability for Braintree Bicycle Accidents

Every driver in Massachusetts must use caution to avoid colliding with any pedestrian or cyclist on the roadway. Drivers must be particularly cautious around children and other vulnerable road users. According to M.G.L. c. 90, § 14, “In passing a vulnerable user, the operator of a motor vehicle shall pass at a safe distance of not less than 4 feet and at a reasonable and proper speed.” There are many different ways that a driver may have acted negligently prior to hitting a cyclist.

  • Blind Spots: A driver may have failed to check their blind spots before initiating a turn at an intersection.
  • Speed: A driver may have been traveling too fast for the prevailing road conditions.
  • Distraction: A driver may have been distracted by looking at their cellphone instead of the road ahead of them.

If a driver fails to slow down to avoid hitting any cyclist in the roadway, this could form the basis of a negligence claim. Even if a cyclist is outside of a marked crosswalk, this does not relieve that driver of their duty of care to avoid the collision. Depending on the facts of any case, a city could potentially be liable for a pedestrian accident if it was caused by a dangerous condition on public property. This could include situations where an intersection had poor sightlines that prevented drivers from being able to see pedestrians.

Injuries Associated With Bicycle Accidents

Cyclists lack the protection of enclosed vehicles and are more susceptible to being seriously injured or killed in the event of a crash. According to the IIHS, “A total of 1,155 bicyclists were killed in crashes with motor vehicles in 2023, the highest number ever recorded. Bicyclist deaths have increased 15% since 1975, and have increased 86% since reaching their lowest point in 2010.” Victims of bicycle accidents are at risk of sustaining many serious injuries.

  • Broken Bones: The impact of a motor vehicle can leave victims with major bone fractures. These are particularly common in a person’s arms, legs, and wrists.
  • Head Injuries: Being knocked to the ground puts cyclists at a serious risk of sustaining a major head injury. This is why helmets are so important.
  • Organ Damage: Not all of the injuries associated with a bicycle accident will be outwardly obvious. Many victims also sustain major internal trauma to their organs.

Preserving medical records and other critical pieces of evidence is important in the aftermath of a car accident. Evidence can help reveal who was at fault. It can also document the full extent of a person’s injuries. Accident victims are protected by a number of laws. They are able to seek some measure of justice and accountability through a civil action. A civil claim can help cover lost wages, medical bills, and pain and suffering.

Investigating Braintree Car Accidents

We at DiBella Law extend our best wishes to Jezneel as he continues to recover. Any person who may have more information about what happened should reach out to the police. There needs to be a thorough investigation into what went wrong. Investigators should also consider what safety measures can be implemented at this location. As cities across Massachusetts have continued to grow, pedestrian infrastructure has not kept pace.
