Greta Wold, 34, of Lisbon, Died in Fatal Pedestrian Accident With Tractor-Trailer Truck Carrying Logs on Route 12

KEENE, NEW HAMPSHIRE (April 25, 2026) – A 34-year-old woman identified as Greta Wold has tragically died in a keen tractor-trailer truck accident on Route 12.

Chesire County officials are saying that the accident took place at around 8:30 PM on Thursday night. Greta Wold was in the northbound travel lane of Route 12 when she was struck by a tractor-trailer truck carrying logs.

Paramedics were called to the scene of the collision to help the victim. Despite life-saving measures, Greta Wold was pronounced dead due to the severe nature of her injuries.

Police closed the highway between Maple Avenue and Wyman Avenue for around 4 hours as they continued to investigate the crash. The truck driver involved has not been charged with any crimes at this time.

Identifying the Liable Parties in a New Hampshire Commercial Truck Accident

Commercial truck drivers have a legal obligation to exercise reasonable care under all the circumstances. They must keep a vigilant lookout at all times and slow down to avoid pedestrians and other hazards in the roadway. According to NH Rev Stat § 265:37, “every driver of a vehicle shall exercise due care to avoid colliding with any pedestrian or any person propelling a human-powered vehicle and shall give an audible signal when necessary and shall exercise proper precaution upon observing any child or any obviously confused, incapacitated or intoxicated person.” Truck companies should also take a number of safety precautions to help prevent major collisions.

  • Driver Fatigue: Truck companies should ensure that all of their drivers are strictly adhering to hours of service rules.
  • Driver Qualification: Truck companies should ensure that all of their drivers are properly licensed and well trained.
  • Vehicle Inspections: Truck companies should routinely inspect all of their vehicles before and after trips. They should also ensure that all required maintenance is performed on essential components, such as the tires and brakes.
  • Cargo Securement: Truck companies must properly balance and secure all of their cargo to prevent cargo shifts.

If a truck driver fails to slow down to avoid colliding with any pedestrian on the roadway, this could form the basis of a negligence claim. Depending on the specific facts of any case, liability for a truck accident could extend to several parties beyond any specific truck driver determined to be at fault. In particular, a truck company could be liable for a pedestrian accident through vicarious liability, negligent hiring, or equipment malfunctions. It also matters whether or not a truck company was pushing their drivers to adopt unsafe habits.

What to Do After a Truck Accident to Protect Your Legal Rights and Claims

Trucks can weigh 80,000 lbs and are involved in many fatal collisions each year. According to the FMCSA, “Over the past year (from 2021 to 2022): The number of large trucks involved in fatal crashes increased 2 percent, from 5,733 to 5,837, and the large truck involvement rate (large trucks involved in fatal crashes per 100 million miles traveled by large trucks) increased approximately 1 percent, from 1.75 to 1.76.” Any person impacted by a truck accident should take certain measures to protect their rights.

  • Police: The police should be called to the scene as early as possible so that they can begin investigating.
  • Truck Records: The event data recorder and the logbook for the truck involved should be closely examined. Many truck accidents involve truck drivers who are speeding or committing hours of service violations.
  • Photographs: Lots of photos of the accident site should be taken. Even a still photograph can reveal a great deal of what happened. For example, a lack of skid marks in the roadway can indicate a truck driver didn’t even attempt to brake before a crash.
  • Independent Review: The family of any person who died in a semi-truck accident should seek an independent review by a team experienced in accident reconstruction and Title 49 of the Code of Federal Regulations (49 CFR).

Truck accidents are rarely caused by the failures of one specific truck driver on any given day. It is more likely that they are caused by systemic failures and shortcomings. In particular, truck drivers may begin to adopt unsafe driving habits because they are pushed to do so by their employer. In these types of cases, the small details really matter. The family of any person who died in a truck accident may be able to pursue some measure of accountability through a civil claim.
