NORWOOD, MASSACHUSETTS (March 7, 2026) – A 35-year-old woman was injured in an MBTA bus accident in Norwood on Washington Street.

Liability for Norwood MBTA Bus Accidents
Buses are considered common carriers, and their drivers must operate with an abundance of caution to avoid causing accidents. They must be particularly cautious near any pedestrians on the roadway. Pursuant to M.G.L. c. 89, § 11, the driver of any vehicle approaching a crosswalk shall yield the right-of-way to a pedestrian that is crossing the road and close enough to pose a hazard. There are many steps that bus drivers should take to avoid collisions.
- Blind Spots: Bus drivers should check their blind spots before making turns at any intersection.
- Horns: Bus drivers should use their horns to alert pedestrians of their presence.
- Scanning: Bus drivers should continuously scan the road ahead of them for pedestrians and other potential hazards.
If a bus driver fails to slow down to avoid colliding with any pedestrian in the roadway, they could be held at fault through a civil claim. Even if a pedestrian is outside of a marked crosswalk, this does not relieve a driver of their duty of care to slow down and take other evasive measures. Liability for a bus accident could extend to multiple parties beyond any specific driver deemed to be at fault. The private employer or municipal entity that a bus driver worked for could also be responsible for a collision.
Preventing Norwood Bus Accidents
There are many measures that cities should take to help prevent pedestrian accidents.
- Bus Routes: Cities that oversee municipal bus programs should plan bus routes that eliminate as many left turns as possible. Left turns are among the most dangerous maneuvers the drivers make.
- Visibility: Cities should ensure that all traffic interceptions are well illuminated. Pedestrian accidents are much more likely to occur if drivers are not able to see pedestrians crossing the roadway.
- Studies: Cities should study which intersections are most likely to have pedestrian collisions. Intersections with a history of pedestrian collisions may need additional infrastructure to help prevent future accidents.
Bus accidents are often highly complex events. The factors that may contribute to any particular accident could take place hours or even weeks beforehand. Unfortunately, it is very common for bus companies to deny responsibility if one of their drivers is involved in a serious collision. They are more likely to blame the victim. Any person injured in a Norwood bus accident may have legal recourse through a civil claim.
Investigating Norwood Bus Accidents
Buses can weigh tens of thousands of pounds and are especially dangerous to pedestrians and those in passenger vehicles. According to The Journalist’s Resource, “on average, about 63,000 buses [of all kinds] are involved in an accident each year; about 14,000 result in an injured person, and 325 result in a fatal injury.”
We at DiBella Law extend our best wishes to the woman injured in this Norwood bus accident. It is our sincere hope that she is able to make a full recovery. Any person who may have more information about what happened should reach out to the police. Many different questions remain unanswered. What was the speed of the bus prior to the crash? Is there a history of collisions along this stretch of road?
