OSHA Investigating Construction Accident At 70 Broad Street In Bridgewater

BRIDGEWATER, MASSACHUSETTS (February 18, 2026)—A construction worker was injured in a Bridgewater accident at a property at 70 Broad Street.

Plymouth County officials say the incident occurred around 11:10 a.m. on Friday. A man was injured in a construction accident while working on the property.

There are very few details about how the accident occurred. A medical helicopter was dispatched to Center Street, where the victim was waiting.

He was transported to Rhode Island Hospital in Providence to receive medical care. A full investigation by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) remains ongoing.

Liability for Bridgewater Construction Accidents

Construction companies in Massachusetts have a legal obligation to maintain their worksites in a reasonably safe condition. According to 29 U.S.C. § 654(a)(1), “each employer shall furnish to each of his employees employment and a place of employment which are free from recognized hazards that are causing or are likely to cause death or serious physical harm to his employees.” Employers should take several steps to prevent construction accidents.

  • Leadership: Construction companies should have an executive-level commitment to safety. This should include encouraging workers to report hazards.
  • Planning: Construction companies should conduct a hazard analysis before any work begins.
  • Fall Protection: Construction companies should provide all workers with fall protection when working at a height of 6 feet or more above lower levels.
  • Training: Construction companies should ensure that all workers operating heavy machinery have adequate training and certification.

When a construction worker is injured in Massachusetts, they will typically have recourse through the workers’ compensation system. This is a no-fault insurance scheme designed to help injured workers.

An injured worker may also be able to pursue damages through a third-party liability claim. A third-party liability claim may be possible if an entity separate from a worker’s employer contributed to an accident. For example, a general contractor could be liable for an accident if they failed to maintain a worksite in a safe condition.

Steps to Take After Massachusetts Construction Accidents

Workers in the construction industry continue to be overrepresented in terms of workplace accidents each year. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, “In 2023, about 1 in 5 (20.8 percent) workplace deaths occurred in the construction industry, and 38.5 percent of these deaths were due to falls, slips, and trips. The construction industry accounted for 47.8 percent of all fatal falls, slips, and trips in 2023.” Multiple actions should be taken after any workplace accident.

  • Victims should seek a thorough medical evaluation as early as possible. One of the worst mistakes that people can make after being hurt in an accident is failing to seek medical attention.
  • Victims should let their employers know as early as possible that they were injured on the job and file a report.
  • Victims should preserve as much evidence related to the accident as they can.
  • Victims should explore their legal options with an experienced Boston construction accident attorney.

Construction accidents can have serious implications for workers’ medical and financial well-being. It is relatively common for injured workers to take many weeks or months off work after a serious accident. The lingering injuries from the accident can also impair their ability to perform their job duties at the same level. Any person injured in a Massachusetts construction accident may be able to seek damages through a personal injury claim. A construction accident attorney can examine the facts of your case to let you know what your legal options are.
