There are two very important things to do. First off, when you get bit by a dog, if you don’t know who the dog owner is, take a picture of the dog. Take a picture of where the bite happened, meaning what location did it happen in. The second thing is medical attention, especially if you don’t know who owns the dog, because you don’t know whether or not the dog has been vaccinated.
So immediately seek medical attention, even if you think it’s just a small scratch or bite, that can be infected, and it can cause severe injuries, scarring, and potential death. And in Massachusetts, dog bites are what’s called strict liability, meaning that if a dog bites you, the dog owner is responsible.
There’s no gray area about it. The law says if the dog bites, then the dog owner is responsible. So that’s what’s called strict liability.
