Nobody’s perfect. Maybe you were going a few miles over the speed limit when a guy ran a red light. Maybe you were looking at your phone when you tripped on that broken sidewalk. Here’s the thing: in most states, you can still recover damages, even if you’re partly to blame. Your compensation might get reduced by your percentage of fault, but you’re still not automatically disqualified. So, if you’re 20 percent at fault, you might recover 80 percent of your damages.
