Motorcycle policies can differ from auto policies in a couple of different ways. The most important is the medical portion. Massachusetts does have that personal injury protection when it comes to auto accidents. However, there is no such thing when it comes to a motorcycle policy. There are no PIP provisions in the motorcycle policy.

You would need to go after the at-fault motor vehicle through their PIP plan for your medical bills. However, there is the option in Massachusetts to purchase something called MedPay, medical payments coverage, which you can get on a motorcycle policy. And, that will directly pay your medical bills immediately so that you don’t have to wait for any decision making on the part of the at-fault vehicle’s insurance company.
